FUTURE REPLACEMENT OF LOW-VOLTAGE FIXTURES

Future replacement of your low-voltage fixture is straightforward and easy to accomplish. No electrician is needed for Class 2 installations. There are only two wires that need to be disconnected, typically a Black (-) and a Red (+). The fixture can then be replaced with any Class 2, 24VDC light fixture. The only limitation is that the new fixture cannot exceed the wattage of the old fixture. This ensures that the new light fixture does not cause the total wattage on the circuit to exceed the maximum power rating.
Figure 19 is an example of a fixture label and what to look for: 1) Ensure that the new fixture has been certified to UL STD 2108; 2) Fixture voltage is 24VDC; 3) Note the wattage rating and do not exceed.
A traditional vanity fixture with Edison screw-based sockets (certified to UL 1598) can also be used to replace an existing integrated low voltage LED fixture. The steps involved are similar to the previous steps. Remove the integrated low voltage lighting fixture and look at the label to check the maximum wattage. As an example, in Figure 20, the integrated low voltage fixture is 24W. If the replacement fixture is a three-light vanity, such as in Figure 23, the maximum wattage per bulb must not exceed 8W (8*3=24W). Next, wire the new fixture, connecting the positive wire from the wall to the WHITE wire of the fixture and the negative wire from the wall to the BLACK wire of the fixture and secure to the wall.
Install the 24VDC filament bulbs to the fixture. Finally, if the bulbs were purchased from CLEANLIFE, a label is included such as shown in Figure 22 below. Affix the label around the socket of the new fixture.
